All children develop and mature at different stages. Junior Kindergarten is intended to give learners who need additional time to mature cognitively, physically, and emotionally an opportunity to do so in a safe and secure environment. Upon completion of Junior Kindergarten, learners will move on to a traditional kindergarten program.
This program is especially helpful to those families that have children with late September or October birthdays that miss the cut-off for public kindergarten. It will be an all year program with both before and after care available. The core hours will be 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.
An integrated approach of teacher-directed and child-initiated learning will allow your learner many opportunities to engage with print, manipulate curricular materials, explore and discover ideas, interact with others, and develop at their own unique rate. This program fosters the development of a positive self-image and enhances learner’s growth toward their individual potential.
Junior Kindergarten will provide learning experiences and opportunities for learners similar to the kindergarten classroom, using an adjusted kindergarten curriculum developed from the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs), but taught at a pace and intensity dependent on individual readiness. This program will strive to help children become risk takers, problem solvers, and decision makers. Our ultimate goal is for children to be successful in their first year of public school.
